Lions Life Cycle Phase 2: The Search for New Members
Around 70% of our members are under 70 years of age, 30% are over 70. The average age of our members is above 61 years and increases by almost one year annually. In extreme cases, clubs have reached an average age of over 70. Currently, about one third of the clubs still have an average age below 60, with a downward trend. Around 15% of clubs have 25 members or fewer.
What resources are available to us to find new members? Where do we find suitable platforms to approach prospective members, and who within the club is looking for new ways to recruit? Who in the club is actually addressing potential new members? How are they informed, and does everyone know what is expected of them? Do clubs also know what expectations potential members have towards the club
Only those who choose well will remain happily together for a long time. This applies to the club as well as to the potential new member.
We have a plan. Join in and help yourselves and your clubs to welcome new members and ensure long-term continuity:
Mission 1.5
Every club grows annually by a net “plus one.”
The goal is not overly ambitious. But it sustainably serves to preserve your club.
Even clubs that have already reached their self-defined upper limit are repeatedly affected by unforeseen resignations. Be it due to members relocating (who may also transfer to other clubs), due to “discomfort in the club,” or through the passing of a Lion friend.
As a board, but also as individual members, always keep an open eye for new Lion friends – they are important.
